Attendance

How To…

Report an Absence
When a student is absent, it is the responsibility of the parent to call 574-3443 (and choose option 1)  before 9:45 a.m. to leave a message. This hotline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It is VERY important that the student’s name, homeroom number, and reason for absence are left on the hotline. Call the absence line in addition to any notes sent to the teacher.

Parents may email teachers to request homework to be picked up in the office after 3:30pm. if the student is absent for more than one day.

Early Dismissal
Always send a note to the teacher on the morning of the early dismissal. Notes may be sent prior to the day of the early dismissal. Please avoid calling the office for an early dismissal to minimize disruptions to classroom activities.

Late Arrival
Please call the absence line if your student will be arriving to school late. Students must report to the office for a pass before going to class.

Absence Policies
To eliminate reoccurring absences and/or tardies, the following referral letter schedule has been adopted:

Tardies
5 times – warning letter
10 times – warning letter #2
15 times – letter and referral to problem-solving team
20 times – referral to School Resource Officer

Tardies, without exception, shall be unexcused. Some examples include:
1. oversleeping 2. missing the bus 3. failure of ride to appear 4. no legitimate reason

Any other reasons than those listed above will be referred to an administrator for determination of late arrival (excused) or tardy (unexcused).

Absences (excused or unexcused):

5 days – warning letter
10 days – warning letter #2
15 days – letter and referral to problem-solving team, with every absence day thereafter unexcused, unless a note from a doctor is provided*
20 days – referral to School Resource Officer

*When the child brings in a Doctor’s note (must include specific dates), the unexcused is changed to excused.
