OHHS Marching Band: Simon Kenton Recap

To say the Oak Hills Marching Band “braved the elements” this past Saturday would be quite the understatement. On a cold, windy, rainy evening, the OHHS Marching Band is proud to have taken 1st place in our class and 3rd place overall out of 23 bands at this past Saturday’s Simon Kenton Band Classic. An incredible 0.2 points separated Oak Hills from Reserve Grand Champion.

Special mentions include:

  • Winning Open Class Champion, taking 1st place in Open Class Music, General Effect, Color Guard, and Percussion.
  • 2nd overall in Music General Effect.
  • 2nd overall in Total Music (combination of Music Performance & Music GE captions).
  • 2nd overall in Percussion.
  • 3rd overall in Visual General Effect (1 point behind Reserve Grand Champion).
  • The OHHS Color Guard, who after pushing and climbing wet ladders and tossing rain-soaked flags and rifles, finished with their highest score of the season with a 129, 10 points higher than their previous high score.

We conclude our season on 11/9 at Mason HS in the MSBA Open Class Championships, where we will compete against 10 of the best open class bands from throughout Ohio and Indiana. For event details, visit https://www.masonbands.com/events/msba-championships/
