A couple of calendar-related updates/reminders:
1. I will be leaving the building at 2pm on Monday.
2. The in-school performance of the 2nd grade musical is this Tuesday at 9am in the gym.
Monday is our last day of reading sessions for the Read-a-Thon. So far, we have raised over $5,700 for our student account. In addition, the 158 students who have gotten sponsors have raised over $1,100 to spend in the prize store. Thank you for your help in making this happen!

TO-DO

By the end of the day Tuesday, we will have brag tags in your mailboxes for you to distribute to students who reached their January reading goals. Please also use this spreadsheet to enter a “Y” next to the names of all students that reach their goals by the end of the day on February 1. We will use that information to calculate class totals.

This EdWeek blog post from Pete DeWitt has a bit of an incendiary title (I doubt that all teachers say these phrases and that no students understand), but it offers a lot of great suggestions. Using John Hattie’s “Visible Learning” work as a framework, DeWitt shares how relatively small changes in how we communicate with students can have a large, measurable impact on student learning and performance. You may find some reinforcement for your current practices and some inspiration!
