Almost Back on the Wheel

TO-KNOW

  • Congratulations to Amanda Luebbe with the birth of her son Barrett Luebbe 1:16 on 7/18/2017 (9 lbs. 7 oz. and 21 inches).

  • Thank You to our dedicated PTA Partners (Kristi Murphy and Family) that came in on a humid Friday afternoon to sort Student Planners.

  • Thank You to the Building Theme Advisory (Michelle Gratz, Melissa Kautz, Beth Phillips, Megan Spetrino, Virginia Sharpe, Cyndi Anderson, Janette Wuestefeld, and Tiffany Berting) for coming in on a Summer day and sharing their thoughts and expertise. I will be sharing more about the plan next week.

  • Let’s talk about the Open House Event on 8/11/2017 (3:30-5:00). Based on discussions with District Office, any teacher that attends the Open House will not have to hold conferences on 1/23/2018. Hope to see you there on 8/11!

  • The state made it official. The Social Studies Exam is gone. Here is some more information (Link). Most interesting is this statement: "The bill also requires that each district or school teach and assess social studies in at least the fourth and sixth grades. A district or school can choose its own assessment, which can be either formative or summative. They are not required to report results to the Ohio Department of Education." This places new importance on the Common Assessments that we have been creating.

  • We have put together a Document with important dates on it. All of these dates are on the Staff Calendar but we thought it would be nice to have them in one place for your reference. Please take a look and let us know if we missed anything (Link).

  • I will be attending a meeting at District Office all Day. This is the big kick-off meeting that Administration holds each year. I’m sure that I will leave with a huge to-do-list. I’ll keep you informed.

Friday

  • I will not be in the building (Going to my niece's wedding in Minnesota). I remember when she was a baby. Makes me feel old.

TO-DO

  • MobyMax: I’m interested in learning more about who is planning to use MobyMax this year. Their prices have gone up and I want to make sure I am taking everything into account before making purchasing decisions. Send me an email if you are interested in using MobyMax this year.

  • IMPORTANT: Now that the Master Schedule (Link) has started to come together it is time to begin building your classroom schedule. You can begin doing this on the tabs on the Master Schedule Document. When doing this we MUST follow the guidelines developed by the district (Link).

  • You should have received an email from Public School Works (Jason Nash) on July First. The email outlines the online trainings that you will need to complete this year (prior to 10/31/2017). Don’t wait till the last moment to get this done.  Set a goal to finish one each week so you aren’t busting them out in late October. If you have questions about Public School Works or need help just let me know.

    • I have finished three how many have you finished?

  • Talk with your Grade-Level Team, or Department Team, and nominate a representative to serve on the Building’s Advisory Committee. Please have these recommendations to me by August 1st.

  • When you are in your room next please let me know if you have a FIRE EVACUATION MAP post somewhere near the door.

TO-READ

If you are inspired, perplexed, or irritated by the weekly reading I’d love to hear about it! Send me an email or grab me in the hallway. Learning never ends!

  • Here is an article entitled “Why it’s So Hard for Teachers to Take Care of Themselves (and 4 Ways to Start) (Link). This is an important topic for us all.

    • Question:

      • “Self-care is something you’ll get to over breaks or in the summer, right?” -Is this the way we want to live?

      • What can we do to foster a healthy lifestyle within ourselves and within our building?
