TO-KNOW
- I will be at District Office on Monday morning until about 10:30. I also have another week of multiple after school meetings and will not be available after school on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Let me know if you need to catch up about something and we will find time!
- A reminder that we will have our in-school performance of the 3rd grade performance this Tuesday, 10/25 beginning at 10:10am.
- The SPG Advisory Team will be meeting on Wednesday after school. Topics already on the agenda include STAT meeting student info form (purpose and making it manageable), 2017 walk-a-thon incentive ideas, and Ready, Set, Read! feedback and ideas. Please let me or your team rep know if you have other items you would like to have discussed.
- There have been multiple community engagements related to language immersion over the past few weeks, involving teachers, staff, parents, and community members. The goal is for the District administration to make a recommendation to the Board at its December 5th board meeting. At this point, three potential paths forward have been developed — continuing immersion, implementing an “electives” model, and discontinuing immersion.
- Next Steps: Each building will be hosting a “Voice Your Choice” meeting during which community members can become better informed about each of these paths and vote for their preference. Springmyer’s meeting will be at 6:30pm on Monday, 11/14. One of these meetings will also be recorded and staff members will be able to view the recording and then complete an exit ticket. I will keep you posted on further details. In the meantime, don’t hesitate to let me know if you have questions!
- We are now officially holding students (and families) accountable for any damages to student devices. As we make this transition, we just ask that you please follow the process below if a student’s device needs to be repaired. Don’t hesitate to let me know if you have questions!
- Fill out a TSR.
- Put a post-it note on the chromebook with the date the TSR was entered and the ticket number.
- Send the student to the Library where Brenda will issue a loaner with the student’s name on it. Brenda will then return the student’s original chromebook to the classroom once it is repaired.
TO-DO
- Ready or not, the end of October is rapidly approaching and we will need to know if students met their reading goals! At our last SPG Advisory Team meeting, we decided that it might be easier for teachers to enter whether students have met their Ready, Set, Read! goals on a common spreadsheet, as different grade levels have take slightly different approaches to tracking. Cyndi was kind enough to create this spreadsheet. Please choose one of these options:
- If you would prefer to indicate which students met their goal on the spreadsheet, please plan to enter a “Y” in the October column for all students who met their goal by the end of the day on Tuesday, 11/1.
- If you would prefer that the office takes care of it for you, please simply email me and let me know.
- Conferences begin a week from Tuesday! This is a great opportunity to connect with parents before we get too far into second quarter. Just a couple of reminders:
- Please check who has signed up on Sign Up Genius and follow up (by email, phone, dojo…or your preferred method) with families who have not picked a time.
- On Wednesday, November 9, PTA will be providing a grab and go dinner beginning at 3:00pm in the faculty lounge.
TO-READ
This recent article from ASCD discusses the challenges (and importance) of creating assignments that truly match the rigor of the standards. The authors discuss the “ingredients” of effective assignments and offer some ideas on how to reach students of multiple skill levels. I thought you might find it interesting in light of all of the important work you have done around creating common assessments that meet these qualities, in addition to your efforts to develop assignments for daily use in your classroom.
