Anna Caito selected as a Disney Summer of Service winner to create positive change in her community

Anna Caito, an 11-year-old, 6th-grade student at Rapid Run Middle School (Delhi) has been awarded a Disney Summer of Service grant through YSA (Youth Service America). The grant will support Caito in leading a community service project that addresses the issue of volunteering to raise funds for Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Child Life Department.

Service activities will take place over the next two months. Last spring Anna made clay pigs to sell as a service project for Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. She spent hours rolling little clay pigs and selling them for donations. She was able to raise $1,235 to donate to the Child Life Department at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. Thanks to an amazing grant from Disney Be Inspired and YSA she is able to up her efforts to raise funds for Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Child Life Department!

This is an amazing opportunity to include kids from all around us in Anna’s project! She will be given a grant to purchase supplies and help engage others in the community to raise funds for the Child Life Department at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.  Recently, she held two “Build the piggy” events and hopes to host a few more to get 35 local kids involved in making pigs. Anna was also able to go to Children’s Hospital to meet a special pig farmer who was inpatient. Anna packed the supplies in a bag that she would need and they worked together to make two pigs and the rest will be a project for the patient to complete in the hospital. Anna is looking forward to picking them up to add to her farm of pigs for sale.

Anna was inspired to give back to the hospital that saved her sight and her life. She will be taking her Pig Farm out into the community to be a part of two upcoming events to sell her pigs and raise money for Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Child Life Department.
