Sophia & Izzy plan 8th-grade formal dance

Posted on: February 15, 2018

Talk about eagles  soaring, these two Delhi Eagles are ones to watch! Student council officers, Sophia Pettyjohn and Izzy Stutzman, developed the idea to host a formal winter dance for their 8th-grade classmates. They devised a plan, presented it to their principal, and were off and running as soon as they got approval! They handled everything from working with outside vendors to get a photo booth (thanks Martinez Orthodontics), shaved ice (thanks All Seasons Rent All) to securing other concessions and graphic art talent for their poster. They created a budget and collaborated with building leaders on the logistics so it was an event everyone would be proud to attend. By engaging the rest of their class using a Google form survey they were able to get feedback regarding the appropriate time frame, food items, theme and decorations for the dance. Because they were involved in the decision-making process nearly half of the entire 8th-grade class attended the dance! Sophia and Izzy wanted the event to be a formal affair so required students to dress their best and only those with good behavior were permitted to attend. The evening was a great success. New friendships were created, the dance floor was sizzlin' and everyone had a wonderful time. We are proud of these Highlanders and know they are leaving a fun legacy for future 8th graders at Delhi!
