Welcome Back

It is with great excitement and anticipation that I welcome you to the 2016-2017 school year! The year promises to be full of opportunities for growth, learning, teamwork and fun for students and staff alike. I look forward to continuing our focus on developing Team Springmyer and ensuring academic growth for each student.

New this year, we will implement a school-wide reading incentive program called “Ready, Set, Read!” Research repeatedly demonstrates the positive impact of independent reading on children’s academic growth in all subject areas. Using the summer Olympics as inspiration, our staff has developed a program in which students will set individual independent reading goals based on their grade level and current reading levels. Students will also work with their class and grade level to meet goals. Our ultimate goal is to create a building full of children who love to read for reading’s sake, and we understand that sometimes students need extra encouragement to get started! We will kick off our program with an “Opening Ceremony” on the first day of school. We encourage students in each grade level to wear specific colors representing the Olympic rings to help show their school spirit. This is completely optional, but should your child choose to participate please follow these guidelines:

1st Grade (Blue); 2nd Grade (Yellow); 3rd Grade (Black); 4th Grade (Green); 5th Grade (Red)

Enjoy the last days of summer! As always, do not hesitate to contact me if you have ideas, questions or concerns. Together, we will build a strong future for each Springmyer student!

In partnership,

-Mrs. Brennan
