Today was the first day back to school for our teachers, and the staff at C. O. Harrison Elementary received a special surprise with a colorful makeover of the school’s teachers’ lounge, courtesy of Crayola and Walmart.

The school was chosen as one of just 24 schools nationwide to win a Creative Teachers Sweepstakes after participating in the annual Crayola Creativity Week program in January. Sara Meyer, an aide at the school, entered C. O. Harrison in the contest that was held last January.

As part of the makeover, the school received $3,000 in Walmart gift cards from Crayola to purchase furniture and décor for the lounge and an extra $1,000 in gift cards from Walmart for teachers to purchase additional items for the recently renovated space. Additionally, Crayola provided the school with $1,000 worth of Crayola art supplies.

“We’re thrilled to get a glimpse at the brand-new teachers’ lounge in time for the coming school year,” said Sara. “We’re honored to be among the 24 schools nationwide to receive a teachers’ lounge makeover, and we’d like to thank everyone at Crayola and Walmart for bringing this remodeled space to life.”

The room – which previously had been a small group teaching space – has been revamped and completely transformed into a teachers’ lunchroom and workspace. The new lounge was designed with a blend of style, comfort and functionality to create an inspiring space where teachers can unwind, recharge, and prepare for upcoming lessons. Volunteers from Crayola and the Walmart Supercenter on Ferguson Road were on-hand at the school to paint and assemble furniture in the new lounge.

Thank you to the wonderful folks at the Western Hills WalMart and Crayola for their generosity and support of our amazing teachers at Oak Hills Local Schools!
