Sarah Haucke, a 1990 graduate of Oak Hills High School, recently walked into room 114 at Bridgetown Middle School and felt an immediate sense of nostalgia. She recalled through laughter the time she took Spanish in the very classroom she was going to make over. As she admired the old charm that still lingered in the space, she realized the room hadn’t changed much since she last walked the halls of Bridgetown.

With a generous heart and a deep value for education, Sarah devised a plan to give back to her alma mater. She wanted to adopt the classroom and give it a facelift. With support from her friends, her children Christian and Grace, co-workers and Tempoe, her place of employment, she was able to turn her dream into reality.

While most people were out shopping for their Thanksgiving fixings Sarah and her team were putting together furniture, painting walls, fixing desks, painting table tops, filling empty cabinets with school supplies and transforming room 114, Mary Rose Lierman’s classroom, into a learning lounge.

“I love this classroom,” 7th grader Stevie Sherman said as he entered the updated classroom. “This is the coolest classroom I have ever seen.”

As a daily reminder to all students who walk into the classroom, the team painted the words, “The Future of the World is in This Room” on the wall. Their goal was to remind students that anything is possible and to share the story that someone who once learned in this very classroom is now out in the world making a difference, and the Bobcats have that capability too!

“It has been great to see the kids come into my room and see their imagination take flight and their work ethic increase,” Mrs. Lierman shared. “Thank you, Sarah, for your time, hard work and generosity. My students and I are blessed by this. May your efforts be the inspiration that ignites others to learn, grow and give back.”

Sarah is the Vice President of Human Resources at Tempoe. Mrs. Lierman is a 1993 Oak Hills graduate and intervention specialist at Bridgetown Middle School. For more information about Tempoe, visit https://www.tempoe.com/.
