“It is an understatement to say that Jacquie Matre is a busy woman,” Delshire teacher Jill Wolfe shared. “An hour before the school day starts up to an hour after the day has ended she is non-stop ‘going’ as the head secretary of Delshire Elementary School. However, it is just like Jacquie to somehow find the time to think of others first.”

After walking into a strings performance at J.F. Dulles Elementary School on a cold and windy December evening, Matre got to thinking. “If I am this cold just walking from my car to the building, what about the people who don’t have a place to get warm?” She thought, “the least I could do is collect some blankets to help them stay warm.”

Matre told her daughter Kyra that she was going to start a blanket drive the next day and sent an email out to friends and family. “My original goal was 75 blankets in one and a half weeks. I am happy to share that well over 120 blankets were received,” she said.

The blankets were delivered first-hand to folks downtown sleeping on Third Street and in Washington Park during this cold holiday season.

Matre’s warm holiday spirit exemplifies what it means to be Highlander Strong. Thank you for giving back, Jacquie and all who donated!

“I was just trying to spread some hope and holiday cheer,” she said.
