John Kramer receives Spirit of Delshire award for his quick action!
Shout out to bus driver John Kramer who received the Spirit of Delshire award from the Delshire Elementary PTA last night.
"John is always ready to lend a helping hand, whether it’s helping students onto the bus, helping load strollers or lunches onto the bus or going back to the bus to retrieve something for us," Tracey Ernst, Intervention Specialist, shared.
More to the story...
Delshire's special education specialized classes participate in weekly community curricular outings. The students benefit from the opportunity to work toward generalizing and applying their academic, adaptive behavior and daily living skills across a variety of contexts and settings. John is the weekly Wednesday driver for the outings.
"I can't begin to tell you how fortunate we are to have him," Ernst added. "He is so kind to the students, so very helpful to the teachers/instructional assistants and extremely flexible/accommodating to our schedules."
John is one of several drivers who has worked with Mrs. Ernst over the past 15 years. She added that each one has been a wonderful and important asset to their team! Kudos to our transportation team!
A couple of times a month the Delshire classes combine with Mrs. Cohill's specialized class from Rapid Run Middle School in order to provide students with meaningful educational and recreational outings to places like Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, Jungle Jim's International Market Fairfield, Rumpke Waste & Recycling, The Children's Theatre of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Museum Center.
During one of the recent combined field trips to Heritage Village Museum a student experienced a seizure. We are thankful our district nurse provides individualized medical care procedures and training to the school team and the bus drivers and assistants each school year. As a result, they quickly sprang into action to administer the appropriate medical care to stop the seizure. Seeing what was happening, John immediately ran to assist and carried the student a long way back to the bus.
"His quick response and assistance meant the world to our team," Ernst said.
Congratulations on your award, John! We are lucky to have caring and kind bus drivers like you. Thank you for making a difference!
