C.O. Harrison Elementary School
Summer Learning Activities
Each year parents ask about summer resources or additional ideas for students during the summer months. In response to this inquiry, C.O. Harrison Elementary will be offering two opportunities. For starters, our teachers have developed summer activity calendars for students transitioning between Kindergarten and first grade, first and second grade, second and third grade, third and fourth grade, and fourth and fifth grade. These activities are not mandatory, but rather, offer suggestions and resources for students to stay sharp and maintain current skill levels. Although these activities or suggestions are set up in a calendar format, please understand these are flexible and are intended to be adjusted or modified based on your family’s summer schedule. Links to each calendar may be found below.
The second opportunity, which involves parents purchasing Summer Bridge Workbooks directly from the distributor for $12.99/workbook, is another viable option for assisting students during the summer. The workbooks are aligned to Ohio’s New Learning Standards and will also serve students well over the summer months. Information to order directly from Summer Bridge Activities may be found in the attached document titled 2015 Summer Bridge Activities Ordering Information.
Please feel free to use either of the options or a combination of both. Regardless of which opportunity you feel is best suited for your student, C.O. Harrison Elementary will be offering opportunities for students to take AR quizzes from 10 am – 1 pm in the media center on the following Wednesdays: June 17th, June 24th, July 1st, July 8th, July 15th, July 22nd, July 29th, and August 5th. As an incentive, students will have opportunities to earn prizes from our treasure box as a reward for engaging in the learning opportunities presented in our grade level calendars or Summer Bridge Activities Workbooks. Treasure box opportunities will be available from 10 am – 1 pm on Wednesday, June 24th; Wednesday, July 22nd; and Wednesday, August 5th.
In closing, these activities and resources are merely suggestions and are not mandatory. As always, our goal is to provide access to opportunities, motivate students, and make learning fun! Enjoy your summer and please let me know if you have any questions.
