Oak Hills High School Students Gain Real-World IT Experience Through Internship

Three Oak Hills High School students spent their summer interning with Vartek Services, the district’s technology partner. Through this opportunity, the students gained valuable hands-on experience in the field of information technology while supporting the daily operations of OHLSD tech infrastructure.
The students, seniors Jason Eby, Bryce Korb and junior Tim Burt, earned the opportunity through a partnership between the school district, Vartek Services and Interalliance. The students are participants in the district’s Information Technology Pre-Apprenticeship Program and are also completing the requirements of the University of Cincinnati’s Early IT Program. As a result of their dedication, all three will receive automatic admission into UC’s School of Information Technology as sophomores, along with access to immediate paid internships following their graduation from Oak Hills High School.
During their internship, the students worked on a variety of real-world projects, including enrolling Chromebooks into the district’s system, assisting staff with syncing new computers, and installing monitors at the District Office. Beyond the technical work, the internship provided valuable exposure to a professional environment, helping them build essential soft skills and grow as young professionals.
“I had numerous opportunities to learn and expand my professional skills, network, and deepen my knowledge within the realm of IT,” said Tim Burt. “This internship gave me hands-on IT experience, strengthened both my technical and soft skills, and truly helped me grow professionally while gaining real-world insight into the field—I’d recommend it to anyone pursuing a career in tech.”
Oak Hills Local School District is proud of these students’ accomplishments and grateful to Vartek Services for providing such a meaningful, career-connected learning opportunity. For more information on the programs offered at the high school, click HERE.
