Veterans Day Assembly
It was an emotional and heartwarming day at Oak Hills High School, where students and staff gathered together to honor and thank local military veterans at our annual OHHS Veterans Day Assembly held Friday, November 6.

The students applauded, cheered, and waved flags and handmade signs as over 235 veterans marched into the assembly. The photos and the names of the veterans appeared on monitors, multiple veterans shared service stories with the crowd, and our OHHS band and choirs did a fantastic job throughout the event. United State Air Force Staff Sergeant and OHHS alum Haden (Barkley) Milliken gave a wonderful and inspiring address about her military service experience and what it has meant to her and her family.

The program ended with the powerful POW/MIA Table Ceremony and the playing of ‘Taps’ by OHHS senior Henry Marshall. Following lunch, a group of veterans shared their experiences with our students at a Q&A panel session in the auditorium.

Former OHHS teacher and veteran Donny Becker, who was at the first ceremony 22 years ago, told our students they were one of the most enthusiastic crowds he has ever witnessed and thanked the students for their support.

THANK YOU to everyone single person who made this event so memorable, from the staff, our students, the many volunteers, and to our amazing veterans who joined us for the event. It was a day that makes you proud to be an American, and proud to be a Highlander.

OHLSD says a grateful THANK YOU to all veterans for their service to this country.
