Evander Frisch: Toy Designer Specializing in 3D Design @ Creative Canvassing

Posted on: October 23, 2025 6:50 am

OHHS Art and Design students were delighted to welcome Class of 2018 alumnus Evander Frisch back to campus for the latest installment of the “Creative Canvassing” series: a program dedicated to opening doors for our art and design students by exposing them to real-world career paths and professionals in the creative industries.

Evander graduated in 2018 and has since made impressive strides in the design and toy-sculpting industry. Evander has worked as a toy sculptor and 3D generalist specializing in toy design for production with notable Kenner projects, including the recent Retro Star Wars line.

Evander shared how his time in the art and design rooms at OHHS helped him when he entered higher education at University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Art, Architecture, and Planning before moving into professional roles in the field of design.

Throughout the presentation, Evander offered our students a behind-the-scenes look at his creative process, including:

How he transitions an idea from sketch to 3D model to production-ready toy.
The importance of both technical skills (like 3D modelling, sculpting, digital fabrication) and soft skills (such as collaboration, communication, client feedback).
His advice on building a portfolio, staying curious about new tools/software, and remaining resilient in the face of industry change.
A Q&A session where students asked about everything from freelancing and internships to long-term career growth in design.

The “Creative Canvassing” series bridges our classroom work with the broader professional world. Evander’s presence as an alumnus is especially powerful: he is proof that the path from classroom to career is real and achievable. His talk reinforced some of the key messages: keep creating, keep learning, and network intentionally. The OHHS Art and Design Department would like to extend our gratitude to Evander for returning to share his journey and for our students to see someone who walked their halls now thriving in the industry. It’s an experience that adds depth to the lesson: design isn’t just about assignments…it’s about impact, career, and creative purpose.
