GMC Athletes of the Week

Congratulations to the Highlanders who were named GMC Athletes of the Week!
Gage Listermann Chess Soph.
Gage went 3-0-2 at the GMC tournament recording zero losses. He worked a draw against one of the best players in the GMC. He was awarded second team all GMC.
Brennen Mumford Boys' Swimming Fr.
Brennen, a freshman, won both of his individual events at our season opener against Middletown and Hamilton (5:15 500 free and :58 100 back). Brennen is a dedicated student athlete in route to be an Eagle Scout. He takes every opportunity to be a leader on the team.
Luke Phillips Academic Team Soph.
Luke has done a great job in our early season practices. It is evident that Luke has been preparing for the upcoming season and is working to help the team in any way that he can.
Claire Robertson Girls' Wrestling Sr.
Claire took 1st at the Hammer and Anvil invitational. Claire beat the #5 ranked girl in the state in the finals. She also led the team to a third place finish out of over 50 teams!
Ellie Polking Girls' Wrestling Fr.
Ellie won the tournament without ever giving up a point and tech falling and pinning throughout the tournament. She also led the team to a third place finish out of over 50 teams!
Ava Kammerer Girls' Basketball Sr.
Ava scored 41 points across two wins this week, including a career-high 26 against Fairfield. She currently leads the GMC in scoring. In the classroom, she’s taking multiple CCP courses and ranks at the top of the senior class. Her academic excellence was recently recognized with the Governor’s Merit Scholarship.
Mary Bacon Girls' Bowling Soph
Mary is off to a great start to the 2025-2026 bowling season! Currently, Mary holds the 6th highest average in the GMC with 178.1 pins per game. This past week, Mary rolled her new personal best high game of 237 to help the Highlanders land their first GMC victory of the season against Lakota East. Then, at the Big Blue Challenge over the weekend, Mary beat her very new personal best high game with an outstanding game of 244 pins! Mary's outstanding performance at the Big Blue Challenge helped the Lady Highlanders earn 4th place out of more than 20 teams.
Ella Weinmann Girls' Bowling Sr.
Ella is determined to make her Senior year on the girls bowling team one to remember! Ella took every available opportunity in the off-season to bowl, and her hard work is showing. Ella is currently tied for 1st place in the GMC with an outstanding average of 192.0 pins per game. This past weekend, she set a goal for herself to roll a series of 600+ pins in the Big Blue Challenge; not only did she accomplish this goal by rolling a series of 614, but she also earned the title of Tournament Champion for the Big Blue Challenge, rolling the highest series out of all individuals participating. This outstanding effort helped the Lady Highlanders finish 4th out of more than 20 participating teams.
Cordell Ball Boys' Basketball Soph
Cordell Ball scored 15 points and had 13 rebounds over 2 games and 2 wins this past week. Cordell is also a standout wide receiver in Football. Cordell is also a member of the Student Athlete Leadership team (S.A.L.T.).
George Gigous Boys' Bowling Sr.
George has started off his senior season raising his average to 204, which is the 7th best in the GMC currently. George has been a great teammate and mentor to his fellow bowlers.
