Highlander GMC Athletes of the Week
Posted on: February 17, 2026 11:00 am
Congratulations to the Highlanders who were named GMC Athletes of the Week!
Maggie Rankin Academic Team Sr.
Maggie has been a 3 year varsity player and 2 year captain for our team! Maggie is also one of the top students in the Class of 2026! Maggie is a great model for the type of young person we hope to develop at Oak Hills!
Anna Shattuck Girls' Bowling Soph
Anna Shattuck had a great 2025-2026 regular season in her 2nd year on the Varsity A girls bowling team. Anna finished 7th overall in the GMC with an average of 167.7 pins per game; 10 pins higher than her finishing average from last season. This past week, Anna closed the regular season out in style! At the final tournament of the season, the GMC Conference Clash, Anna rolled a 3-game series of 574 pins which was the leading series of all individuals to become the tournament champion and make the All-Tournament Team! Anna's efforts earned her a spot for the second year in a row on the 1st Team All-Conference
Brady Wergers Boys' Basketball Sr
Brady, a 3 sport athlete (Football, Soccer and Basketball) and a two sport captain, had a great week last week. His contributions don't normally show up in the stats column. He just makes winning plays- tough rebounds, loose balls, competitive defensive plays,..... For example, he had 10 rebounds in a hard fought win against Princeton this past Friday. He has been a great teammate and leader during this regular season!
Jonovan Herzog Boys' Basketball Sr.
Jonovan had 16 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 blocks and an assist vs. Princeton Friday Night. For Monday night's game, he had 13 points, 2 rebounds, 4 steals, 5 blocks and 2 assists against Hamilton. That's a great week!
Giana Salzano Girls' Basketball Sr
Giana came back to the program as a senior after not playing last season. She has been a huge part of our team's success this season. Giana has started all but one game and has been one of our most consistent perimeter shooters. She also has the task each game of guarding the opposing team's best player. Off the court, she is a vocal leader in the locker room and has kept the team together during adversity. Giana attends Diamond Oaks in their Cosmetology program. Next year, she will be attending Northern Kentucky and pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education.
