Congratulations to our Highlanders who were named GMC Athletes of the Week!
Skyler Weinewuth Girls Softball Fr.
Fr pitcher/outfielder Skyler Weinewuth has been a workhorse since day 1. A multi-sport athlete, Skyler worked her way onto the varsity roster through her hard work & dedication toward getting better. Skyler is coachable and very talented. Skyler suffered an unfortunate accident at practice last week that ended her freshman playing season before it was able to officially get going. Skyler will move into a student manager role to keep her a part of the program where she can continue to learn and grow. Skyler not only leads on the field but in the classroom as well, holding a 4.5 gpa.
Joseph Getz Boys' Track Jr.
Joseph is running track for the first time ever, and he has stepped in with an incredible attitude and performance. He is currently the team’s #3 runner in both the 800 and 1600 meters and has already improved his 800-meter time by 7 seconds since his indoor meet just a month ago. His hard work and dedication make him a vital contributor to the varsity track team this season.
Ella Nienaber Girls' Track Fr.
Freshman Ella Nienaber has had an outstanding preseason of training. She has set personal bests in practice for both the 800 and 1600 meters and is currently the team’s #4 runner in the 1600 and #5 in the 800. Ella shows up to practice every day with a positive attitude and a strong willingness to work hard. Her dedication and energy make her a key part of the Varsity team’s success this season.
Aiden Spangler Boys' Lacrosse Sr.
In our 2 scrimmages last week Aiden had 6 goals against Edgewood and 8 goals against Indian Hill.
Max Rhodes Boys Basketball Sr.
Max, a multi-sport athlete, and a 4 year letter winner in both football and basketball, suffered a season ending injury in football that also kept him out of playing in his senior year of basketball.
But Max showed leadership and unselfishness as he led our bench with energy and enthusiasm. He helped the team finish their season in the Elite 8. He will continue his football career at Southern Illinois. He has also earned a 3.83 GPA.
Brady Wergers Boys' Basketball Sr.
Brady is a co-captain in both his senior year sports- Basketball and Boys' soccer. He also filled in for Varsity Football when they needed a kicker due to injury. He led the Boys' Basketball Team to its Elite 8 finish, providing tough defense, many winning plays and strong leadership. Also, Brad has earned a 3.59 GPA.
Wil Kraus Boys' Basketball Sr.
Wil is a co-captain in both his senior year sports- Basketball and baseball. Wil's competitive defensive efforts, many game winning plays and strong leadership helped the Highlanders to their Elite 8 finish. Wil will continue his baseball career after high school as a Wright State University Raider. He also carries a 4.47 GPA.
Brady Kornmann Boys' Basketball Sr.
Brady is a rare 3 sport athlete- Football, Basketball and Baseball. He is a leader in so many ways as he has to be a main ball handler vs. pressure, and sometimes defend opponent's best players as well. He doesn't fill the stats page but he just makes winning plays. Brady was 1 of our many seniors who contributed to the Highlander's Elite 8 Finish. Brady carries a 3.22 GPA as well.
Alex Grubbs Girls' Lacrosse Fr.
Alex is new to lacrosse this season and has quickly made an impression in her first year, earning a spot on the JV team as a goalie, which is no small feat for a beginner. She brings a consistently positive attitude to every practice and is deeply involved at the high school. A true multi-sport athlete, Alex also competes on the golf and bowling teams. In addition, she is active in several clubs, including writing, history, book, and German club. Her first game will be on Tuesday, March 24 against Lakota West. Alex truly embodies what it means to be a student-athlete, and her coaches are excited to watch her continue to grow in the sport.
