2019 Cincinnati Art Club Plein Air Art Competition

The Cincinnati Art Club (CAC) and Cincinnati Parks (CP) recently hosted the third annual Greater Cincinnati High School Art Students Plein Air Art Competition. The 2019 High School Plein Air Contest was an educational outreach by the CAC to extend an opportunity for the area’s high school students to work from life in the outdoor environment.

Invitations were sent to all high schools in the Greater Cincinnati area to nominate student artists to enter the contest; there were 31 entrants, representing 17 different High Schools. The contest took place Saturday, September 28 and Sunday, September 29, 2019 in Eden Park, Cincinnati, Ohio. The high school artists gathered at Twin Lakes, to work there and in the areas of Presidents’ Grove as well as Upper Overlook. They were expected to use their own artistic expression, with art materials provided through the kind donations of Plaza Artists Materials, Kenwood and Blick Art Materials, Columbus. Mentors from the CAC were on hand to encourage and support the students’ progress.

On Sunday, October 6, 2019 an Exhibition of the completed work and Awards Ceremony was held at the Herman & Bessie Wessel Gallery, Cincinnati Art Club, 1021 Parkside Place, Cincinnati, Ohio. Some of the student artists completed more than one piece during the competition and 48 pieces were on display. Recognized professional artists of the CAC judged the submitted artwork for prizes.

Congratulations to Ms. Schorsch's Studio Art AP 2D Design and Drawing students Elizabeth Pfalz and Alaina Broughton who were selected to represent OHHS Art and Design and participate in this year's competition.
