Posted on: February 6, 2024 10:50 am

Leading up to, and throughout, the SOS ART Youth Exhibition we will be featuring artworks from the students of Southwest Ohio who used their voices to address issues of peace and justice. The exhibition, now in its 3rd year, is a collaboration between the National Art Honor Society members of Oak Hills High School, SOS ART, and the art educators of Southwest Ohio. This year, we will be featuring the work of over 250 students from: OHHS, Butler Tech School of the Arts, St. Ursula Academy, Mount Notre Dame, Seton, Princeton High School, Taylor High School, Sycamore High School, Mariemont High School, Summit Country Day School, and Frederick Douglass Elementary School.

The neighborhood is a familiar place for students. It is an image of a safe haven and represents the shelter we all seek to have.  Students were asked to focus on their own homes. They considered what makes a building function as a home and what makes a home aesthetically motivating.  Students analyzed the architecture and the history of their neighborhoods. Looking at the assets of their neighborhood and their home, they created a small relief sculpture of their home out of cardboard, tape, and glue.  Students worked with several layers of color to enhance the relief aspect of the buildings and enhanced the line elements with black markers.
