Highlander GMC Athletes of the Week
Posted on: May 19, 2026 9:00 am
Congratulations to the Highlanders who were named GMC Athletes of the Week!
Katie Swafford Girls' Track Sr
Katie is closing out her senior season in style. She recently jumped her personal best 5'0" in high jump and was elevated to a varsity spot in discus. At the GMC championships, she finished 5th in high jump. Katie's positive attitude and leadership qualities are some of the biggest reasons she will be missed next year.
Tank Troxell Boys' Track Jr.
Tank has established himself as one of our top throwers, in his first year on the team. At the GMC championships, he threw a huge personal best in the shot put to capture the 7th place spot, which was way ahead of where he was ranked. The team points he fought for and earned helped to elevate the boys squad in the close team battle.
Payton Veneman Softball Sr.
Sr 1b Payton Veneman has been hot in the cleanup spot all season. Monday against our final GMC game Payton went 2 for 4 with 2 rbi to help secure a 2nd place finish in the league. Wednesday Payton hurled 7k's against Seton to help clench the 10-3 westside win against Seton for the final season game. Friday the Highlanders opened up their first game of the state tourney and Payton went 2 for 4 collecting 4rbi adding a double and long bomb homerun. Payton leads not only on the field but also within the classroom, recently finishing her Vet program at Diamond Oaks.
Ethan Moeves Baseball Sr.
Ethan had a terrific week batting .571 with an On Base Percentage of .727. He went 4/7 with 3 RBI's, 3 Runs Scored and was hit by 4 pitches. At the moment Ethan leads the Highlanders with a .508 BA and .624 OBP.
Ryan Murphy Baseball Jr.
Ryan has accomplished something that is very tough to do. In 9 conference starts he is 8-0, with one no decision. That No Decision was 7 innings allowing 2 Runs, 0 Earned Runs while striking out 10. Currently Ryan has a .737 ERA, .772 WHIP, and a 9-0 record.
Ryan Kraus Boys' Lacrosse Soph
Ryan has had an extremely productive Sophomore season and given us a ton of playing time, he is a very hard worker and a great teammate as well as a big help on both the offensive and defensive sides of the field.
