Highlander GMC Athletes of the Week

Posted on: May 15, 2019 11:00 am

Congratulations to our Highlanders who were named GMC Athletes of the Week - May 6th.

Hannah Bennett    Girls' Track        Soph
Hannah has been working very hard to get her times back to where they were last year, and she has been pretty frustrated as a result. Despite the difficult road she has been on, Hannah didn't give up on herself and finally at the Best of the West, things started clicking again. She showed her competitors how tough she is as she sprinted to the win in the 800m run. She is poised to make a lot of noise these next two weeks.

Aaron Tam          Boys' Track         Sr.
Aaron has been one of the most effective leaders on the team his senior year. He is respected by his teammates and trusted by his coaches. When the team needs something important done and we are one coach short, Aaron is the go-to guy. He has been the team's top high hurdler all season and has been steadily improving his PR. He ran a great time to place 7th at BotW and led his shuttle hurdles team to a second place finish. We are looking forward to seeing a strong finish at the end of Aaron's track & field career.

Josie Wefer        Softball        Jr.
Josie Wefer has had a standout week. She went 2/3 against Lakota West with 3rbi, 3/4 against Colerain with 4rbi and 2/3 against Hamilton with 5rbi. She also hit her first grand slam of the season. Josie currently leads the GMC in RBIs with 35. Josie also works hard in the classroom maintaining an A/B average.

Issac Tarter        Boys' Volleyball           Sr
In two matches this week, Issac accumulated 22 kills, 3 aces, 23 digs and passed a 2.5 in serve receive. Issac has taken on a senior leadership role this season and has continually worked to improve himself on and off the court. He currently ranks 4th in the GMC in kills, 4th in digs and 8th in passing. He is an excellent all-around player.

Grace Aug      Girls' Lacrosse       Sr.
She leads in goals with 21, Ground Balls with 40, Draw Control wins with 38 and scored 3 goals against Lakota West. Committed to play Lacrosse at Centre College next year. She is on the Honor Roll and also played Basketball.

Andrew Cole         Boys' Tennis      Sr
Andrew has a great showing at the GMC tournament, earning 6th place. Earlier in the week, he beat Lakota East with Daniel Rauch. Andrew takes a rigorous AP schedule, while also being a member of the school theatre productions.
