Highlander GMC Athletes of the Week

Congratulations to our Highlanders who were named GMC Athletes of the Week!

 
Alex Schmidt        Jr.     Boys' Swimming
Alex is a multiple-sport athlete that is a true team player. Alex will compete in any event, train hard for the event, all for the benefit of the team. Alex will play an important role for the team at the GMC meet, taking on diving and swimming to help the team maximize our team points.  
Brooke Wirtz        Sr.        Girls' Swimming
Brooke is a four-year varsity swimmer. This year, Brooke has taken on new roles and has been a consistent and reliable asset to the team. She has picked up events at the last minute, helped others with their events, and played a major role in the improvement of the girl's team. She will be competing for the team at GMC's and sectionals for the fourth year in a row.  
Nathan Sexton     Sr.    Boys' Bowling
Nathan finished 3rd overall at the Cardinal Classic making the all-tournament team rolling a 487 series. Nathan is currently 5th in the GMC with a 211.9 average, and in his last 8 games bowled he is averaging 235  
Steven Granger III         Sr.         Boys' Bowling 
Steven finished 1st overall at the Cardinal Classic making the all-tournament team with a 509 series that included his new high game of a 277. Steven is currently 9th in the GMC averaging 203.2.   
Alana Uran       Jr.         Girls' Basketball
Alana, a junior forward, came off the bench in two games this week to spark the Highlanders and played a tremendous game in helping Oak Hills upset the top team in the GMC Princeton, 61-60, on Saturday. She had a big assist and made her only shot of the game in the third quarter, sparking a 23 point outburst in the 3rd quarter that was critical to helping Oak Hills win the game. Alana is one of the most vocal leaders on the bench when she is not playing, and her attitude and commitment to fill a role is one of the reasons for the team's success this season. Alana is an outstanding student with a 4.0 GPA.   
Avery King         Fr.    Girls' Bowling
At the Cardinal Classic at Colerain Bowl on Sunday, January 26th, Avery had her breakout game and series of the season so far. She bowled a 223 for her first game, leading to her season-high series of 365! As a Freshman, Avery continues to grow and secure her place as a starter on the Varsity team. Avery is currently ranked in the top 30 bowlers in the GMC.  
Emma Thomas         Sr.          Girls' Basketball
The senior captain came off the bench in two games this week and helped lead Oak Hills to a 61-60 upset win over the top team in the GMC, Princeton. Emma added 7 points, 1 steal, 1 rebound and 1 assist and played 22 minutes off the bench in the loss to Fairfield and followed up that performance with her best defensive effort of the season against Princeton, also grabbing a rebound and helping to defeat the Vikings. Her quality minutes off the bench vs. Princeton was one of the key reasons why Oak Hills won the game, and she has provided valuable minutes off the bench all season long. Emma is also an outstanding student, with a 3.95 GPA and holds down a part-time job in addition to her school and basketball commitments.  
Courtney Dean        Soph.       Girls' Basketball
Courtney, a sophomore guard, was part of the trio of players who came off the bench and helped Oak Hills upset Princeton, 61-60. She was the offensive spark, playing 24 minutes and scoring 10 points and dishing out 4 assists, and hitting a big three-point shot down the stretch in the fourth quarter to help the Highlanders knock off the conference leaders.  
Cam Brandt          Sr.           Boys' Basketball
The senior tri-captain contributed 39 points, 12 assists, and 10 rebounds in 3 games this past week. The team had wins against Elder and Colerain while playing well but losing at LaSalle, 50-45. Cam is a multi-sport athlete (baseball/basketball) with a 3.4 GPA.
Tanner Murphy      Sr.         Boys' Basketball
The senior tri-captain contributed in so many ways other than statistical categories. His leadership, willingness to accept a role, work ethic and ability to be the ultimate teammate along with his positive minutes greatly contributed to a competitive week. Also, Tanner has taken more charges on defense than our entire team combined. The team had wins against Elder and Colerain while playing well but losing at LaSalle, 50-45. Tanner is a multi-sport athlete (baseball/basketball) with a 4.0 GPA.  
Kelen Dietrich     Sr.    Boys' Basketball
The senior tri-captain contributed 47 points, including 15-16 from the Ft line in 3 games this past week. The team had wins against Elder and Colerain while playing well but losing at LaSalle, 50-45. Kelen also earned a 3.9 GPA during his 4 years at Oak Hills.
