Highlander GMC Athletes of the Week

Congratulations to the Highlanders who were named GMC Athletes of the Week!

Mitchell Ferguson    Wrestling    Soph
Mitchell is everything you ask of a student athlete. He excels both in the classroom and on the wrestling mat. He continues to do everything right and his success proves it. This weekend he went 3-2 with two huge come from behind victories that helped the team finish 4-1 on the day. Mitchell has a 4.0 GPA as well.

Ayva Moore Girls' Basketball Soph
Ayva, a sophomore guard, scored a career-high 11 points on 4 of 7 shooting from the field, grabbed 2 rebounds and had 2 big steals to lead Oak Hills to a come-from-behind win over Colerain. Ayva also hit the game-clinching free throw with less than 10 seconds left to seal the win. Ayva is an outstanding student and carries a 4.0 GPA.

Ella Weinmann         Girls' Bowling           Fr
Ella has only been a member of the Girls Bowling team for a little over a month, but she's already emerging as a leader of the Varsity B team. Ella led the Lady Highlanders during our match with Kings, rolling an impressive 339 series including a new personal best game of 213 (her first 200 game ever!).

Avery King Girls' Bowling Sr
At the Holiday Classic tournament on December 10th, Senior Avery King led the Varsity A team with an outstanding 3-game series of 543; which landed her 6th individually overall for the entire tournament and earned her a spot on the All-Tournament Team! Avery's performance helped the team finish in 8th place for the qualifying round, advancing them to the knock-out championship rounds.

Charlotte Logan        Girls' Swimming      Sr
Charlotte is a senior with a 3.94 GPA. She played a major role in helping the girls win the Best of the West meet on Dec. 6 by placing 3rd in the 100 breaststroke, 5th in the 100 Butterfly, and 1st on the 200 Free Relay. Charlotte is a wonderful presence on the team and has begun taking a larger leadership role outside of her team by volunteering as a coach with younger swimmers with Oak Hills Youth Athletics.

Andrew Stakauskas Boys' Swimming Jr
Andrew is a Junior Swimmer with a 3.1 GPA. His first meet this season was Best of the West where he helped his team to a strong Second place finish. Andrew placed first in his two individual events, the 200 Free with a 1:46.42 and the 100 Fly with a 52.65. He was a member of the first place 200 Medley Relay and on the second place 400 free relay. We look forward to great things from Andrew this season!

Henry, a JV guard who also dresses for varsity, has been  an excellent leader through his work ethic on and off the court. Henry is a multi-sport athlete (Basketball/Baseball) with a 3.98 GPA. He attends morning extra time shooting 3-4 times each week, practices extremely hard, demonstrates an understanding of the game and tutors elementary school students at Dulles Elementary.
