Highlander GMC Athletes of the Week

Congratulations to our Highlanders who were named GMC Athletes of the Week!

 
Mariah Cornett           Girls' Basketball         Soph
Mariah has done a tremendous job in her role with the varsity basketball team this season. A starter for JV who dressed for all varsity games, she has done an amazing job helping the varsity team get better during the season at practices and most recently preparing for their upcoming sectional tournament game. Her contributions on the court have been a huge plus for the program. Mariah is a multisport athlete who plays soccer and is also an outstanding student, with a 3.33 GPA.
 
Bailey Murphy Girls' Basketball Soph
Bailey earned a late season call up from JV to the varsity team with her performance at the end of the season. She goes all out in practice and in the games. She has done a great job helping the varsity team get better during the season at practices and most recently preparing for their upcoming sectional tournament game. Bailey is a multisport athlete who plays soccer and is also an outstanding student, with a 3.41 GPA.  
 
August Foland             Boys' Swimming      Fr
August is a Freshman on the Swim Team and has been an incredible team member throughout his first season. August has been willing to try any event and during the final dual meet he dropped over 15 seconds in his 500 Freestyle event. This past weekend at Sectionals, he placed 10th in the 200 IM with an 8 second drop and 9th in the 100 Backstroke with a 2 second drop. August maintains a 3.5 GPA and will head to Districts as an alternate on the 200 Medley Relay!
 
Maria Thibodeaux Girls' Swimming Sr
Maria is a Senior who has spent all 4 years on the Swim Team. At Sectionals, over the weekend, Maria placed 2nd in the 200 Medley Relay, 2nd in the 200 Free, 3rd in the 100 Butterfly, and 1st in the 200 Free Relay. She is moving on to Districts in both relays and the 200 Free. Maria continues her hard work and dedication in the pool and continues to maintain a 3.78 GPA in her academics.  
 
Gabe Cox              Boys' Basketball                  Soph
Gabe played most of his sophomore year on the JV team, which finished 15-6. He now is practicing with the varsity as the team prepares to play in the postseason tournament. Gabe is a multi-sport athlete and an excellent student with a 4.0 GPA.
 
Brady Keeton             Boys' Basketball                  Soph
Brady played most of his sophomore year on the JV team, which finished 15-6. He now is practicing with the varsity as the team prepares to play in the postseason tournament. He is a multi-sport athlete and an excellent student with a 4.0 GPA.
