Highlander GMC Athletes of the Week

Congratulations to our Highlanders who were named GMC Athletes of the Week! 

 
Ja'myha Nelson            Girls' Swimming           Sr. 
Ja'myha has been a member of the swim team for 4 years and is looking to make a big impact during her senior season. She was recently named a team captain and has displayed incredible hard work and dedication during this part of the season. Ja'myha has achieved personal best times in the 50 and 100 Freestyle events. We look forward to what she is going to do during her senior season!
 
Mason Altman     Boys' Swimming   Soph
Mason is a Sophomore on the swim team and has already achieved some of his personal best times. He dropped significant time off his 50 and 100 Freestyle events during the Walnut Hills Meet this season. Mason played a major role in helping the team achieve a win over Colerain last week. Mason plans to continue his success in the water this season.  
 
George Gigous           Boys' Bowling              Soph
This is George's first season as a varsity member and he has stepped to the challenge. George currently averages 184 which is 19th best in the GMC. George always brings a positive attitude and pushes himself to improve.
 
Joe Herzner       Boys' Bowling             Jr.
This is Joe's 3rd season on the bowling team and he is constantly improving and doing whatever it takes to get better everyday. Joe currently averages 190, and rolled a 392 series against Mason. Joe has a positive attitude and supports his teammates any chance he gets.  
 
Nick Lawson           Boys' Wrestling             Sr.
Nick Lawson won a huge match that helped lead our Varsity team to a win over Middletown. Nick was down 11-2 in the second period and secured a fall earning the team 6 points in a 39-24 victory.  
 
Henry Maginn       Boys' Basketball                   Jr.
In  2 games this past week, Henry Maginn averaged 14.5 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists. He is a multi-sport athlete and an excellent student with a 4.0 GPA, taking an AP and Honors level course schedule. 
 
Ava McAmis        Girls' Bowling              Jr.
Ava has quickly become a leader of the Varsity B girls bowling team. With an average of 134.5 pins per game, more than 15 pins per game than her average at the end of the 2022-2023 season, Ava also currently holds the high game for the Varsity B team with a 182.
 
Layla Maness         Girls' Bowling               Jr.
Junior Layla Maness has started off the 2023-2024 bowling season, showing incredible growth from last year. Layla is already averaging more than 133 pins per game, this is 18 pins more per game than she was averaging at the end of the 2022-2023 season. Layla also leads the Varsity B team with a high 3 game series of 419, which she bowled this past weekend at the Holiday Classic at Western Bowl.
