Highlander GMC Athletes of the Week

Congratulations to the Highlanders who were named GMC Athletes of the Week!

Maria Barr        Girls' Bowling               Jr.
Junior Maria Barr had a great week on the lanes! In the match with Taylor, Maria rolled her new personal best high game, a 180, and led the Varsity B team with a 323 series. She then followed it up with a series of 402 for 3 games at the East vs. West Showdown on Saturday. With her no-quit attitude and enthusiasm, Maria has become a valuable leader on the Varsity B team in just her second year as a member of the girls bowling team.

Anna Burns      Girls' Bowling   Fr
Freshman Anna Burns has become an invaluable addition to the girls bowling team this season. Anna joined the JV team, with no bowling experience, and in just a few short months, has become a leader on the JV team. Last week, we called upon our JV girls to step up when we needed to fill spots during matches for the Varsity B team, Anna didn't hesitate. Not only did she bowl with Varsity level bowlers, she excelled. For 2 matches and 1 tournament, Anna averaged 121 pins per game, 21 pins higher than her current season average. Anna is the ultimate team player, always arriving with a smile and encouraging her teammates, even if she's not having a great day.

Liz Savage         Girls' Swimming       Sr
Liz is a Senior and a Captain on the swim team. She has worked hard this season and over the last week she placed 2nd in the 100 back against Lakota West and achieved her personal best time of the season. She and her teammates were victorious over Little Miami last Thursday on Senior Night which was a great way to end the regular season competition. Liz has overcome a lot of adversity this season, but has continued to battle and looks forward to making her mark on the postseason this weekend at GMC's and next weekend at Sectionals.

Peyton Lipps       Boys' Bowling      Jr
Peyton has continued to improve this season and when he is called upon he steps up. He is currently in the top 40 bowlers in the GMC. He has been a vital part of the team's success this season.

Dawson Wagel        Boys' Bowling        Sr
Dawson made the all tournament team this past weekend at the East vs West with a 649 series. Along with that Dawson is currently 20th In the GMC for average. Dawson has stepped up to every challenge in his first full season on varsity.

Brady Keeton     Boys' Basketball     Jr
Brady scored 12 points in a big win against Sycamore this past Friday night. Brady is a multi-sport athlete (Basketball / Baseball), and he is an excellent student with a 3.98 GPA.

Nathaniel Riep     Boys' Basketball    Jr
Nathaniel scored 20 points, pulled down 12 rebounds with 1 assist, 3 steals and 2 blocked shots in 2 GMC wins this past week.

Anna Campbell     Girls' Basketball     Sr
Anna, a four year varsity letter winner, unfortunately tore her ACL in the first game of the season. Since that point, she has been a great teammate! On Senior Night on Saturday, Anna made her first basket of the season to start the game. Anna holds a 4.0 GPA and ranks in the top 75 of the senior class!

August Foland                  Boys' Swimming          Soph
August is a Sophomore on the swim team that has contributed to a lot of the success the boys have had this season. August is extremely hard working and dedicated whether it is in the weight room, in practice, or in school. On Saturday, he competed against Lakota West, placing second in the 200 IM and second in the 100 backstroke while achieving his personal best times in both. August is looking to continue to achieve his goals over the next few weeks at GMC's and Sectionals.
